Belur Math

Belur Math is in the north of the city, on the west bank of the Hooghly River and is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission. It was erected by a disciple of Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, in 1938. It is famous for the massive riverfront temple- a symbol of the resurgence in Bengali Hinduism.
