Located at the southwestern tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram district, the coastal capital city of Kerala, set on seven low hills, is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west and Tamil Nadu on the east, 87 km from the southern tip of India. How to Get There :

Air : Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at Valiyathura: Flights to Cochin, Madras, Delhi, Bangalore, Goa and Bombay. International to Colombo, Mali, Dubai, Abudhabi and Kuwait.

Rail : Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station, Thambanoore. Rail services to all important cities in India.

Road : State owned Transport Corporation runs buses from its major depot.

 
Sightseeing :

Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple :

Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple, built in the Dravidian style, is the city's most impressive landmark dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Its seven storeyed gopuram constructed by Maharaja of Travancore in 1773 is one of the finest specimens of traditional South Indian temple architecture. 

Puttan Malika Palace :

The Puttan Malika Palace, immediately southeast of the temple, became the seat of the Travancore rajas after they left Padamanabhapuram at the end of the 19th century. Some of the palace has been turned into a museum and displays a collection of heirlooms and artefacts, however the highlight is the typically understated, elegant Keralan architecture.

Napier Museum :

The Government (Napier) Museum of arts and crafts, situated north of the city was completed in 1880. It displays 15th century Keralan woodcarvings from Kulathupuzha and Thiruvattar, contemporary ornaments, ivory carvings, carved temple chariot, 12th century Chola and 14th century Vijaynagar bronze.

›› Kovalam Beach:

Kovalam Beach lies 16 kms away from Thiruvananthapuram. The unique and wonderful Kovalam beach is one amongst the loveliest beaches in the world. It is a sheltered bay and is endowed with unusual natural beauty.

›› Ponmudi  :

A quaint little hill station tucked away in the Western Ghats, 60 km northeast of Thiruvananthapuram at an altitude of 1066m lies Ponmudi. Lush green woods, lazily meandering streams and countless varieties of butterflies lend a strange magic to Ponmudi.

›› Padmanabhapuram  :

Padmanabhpuram situated 63 km southeast of Thiruvananthapuram, was the capital of Travancore between 1550 and 1750. The place offering Keralan architecture has an irresistible attraction. And the predominantly wooden Padmanabhapuram Palace epitomizes classical Keralan architecture.

›› Varkala  :

Varkala, 54 km northwest of Thiruvananthapuram is drawing more and more foreign visitors, is famous for beach resort and facilities are on par with any other beach resorts.Janardhana Swami temple , a leading pilgrim centre. Sivagiri is another pilgrim destination.
