Shimla, Capital City of Himachal Pardesh and the largest and most famous
hill station of India. Shimla "Queen of all Hills Stations" is situated in the
north-west Himalayas. Visitors come to Shimla to walk down its famous Mall Road

History

|
Before the British discovered it in 1819, Shimla was a small village that was
part of the Nepalese kingdom. In 1830, the local Raja was persuaded to part with
the land by the British and the settlement became the subcontinent's most

1864. After India's independence, Shimla became the capital of Punjab till 1966,

How to Reach Shimla
|
Air : The nearest airport is at Jubbarhati, 23 km from Shimla, and
is linked to Chandigarh, Kullu and Delhi.
Road : Shimla is connected by road to Chandigarh, Delhi, Dehradun, Kalka,
and to many other places as well.
Rail : Broad-gauge trains run till Kalka, from all the parts of the
country. From Kalka onwards, a rail car on narrow gauge takes you to Shimla
which offers some fantastic sights. |
