Nilakanth Mahadev or simply Nilkantha, 12 kms east of Rishikesh is believed to be place where the Lord Shiva drank the poison of cremation churned out of the cosmic ocean and ended up with a blue (nil) throat (kantha). The temple is located atop a hill. Every Shivratri and Shrvan (mid-July to August) fair are held here. |
