Enclosed by a roughly rectangular 6m high wall,
in the manner of a fortified palace, the Meenakshi-Sundareshwara Temple is
one of the largest temple complexes in India. The principal Shrines
(closed to non-Hindus) are those to Sundareshwara (Shiva) and his consort
Meenakshi (a form of Parvati), unusually, the goddess take s precedence
and is always worshipped first. |
