Shey, 15km southeast of Leh and once the capital of
Ladakh, was constructed by the first king of Ladakh,
Lhachen Palgyigon. The main image in the monastery is the three storey statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, made of
copper guilt, which was made by King Deldan Namgail in the memory of his father
Singay Namgail. The statue is the only of its kind in the region. |
