The Hooghly reaches the Bay Of Bengal at iamon Harbour, 50km south of
Kolkata. The Harbour here was used by East India Company, an a ruin fort
is said to date back to Portugese pirates. The diamond Harbor was
renamed so by the British Diamond Harbor from its earlier name Hajipur.
The harbor is a turning point for the distributary of the Holy Ganges.
The river Hooghly turns towards the south into the Bay of Bengal.
