Travel to Kanha...

›› Hotels in Kanha

Situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the picturesque Kanha National Park was the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's unforgettable classic Jungle Book. The romance of the Kanha National Park has not reduced over time-it is still as beautiful. Kanha National Park encompasses nearly 2000 square kilometers of deciduous forest, savanna grassland, hills and gently meandering rivers - home to literally hundreds of species of animals and birds, including a stable population of tigers.

History :
Central portions of the Kanha Valley were designated as a wildlife sanctuary as long ago as 1933. Prior to this, the whole area was one enormous viceregal hunting ground, its game the exclusive preserve of high-ranking British army officers and civil servants seeking trophies for their colonial bungalows. Not until the 1950s though, after a particularly voracious hunter bagged thirty tigers in a single shoot, did the government declare Kanha a bona fide national park. Over the years, the authorities have had a hard time reconciling the needs of the villagers with the demands of conservation and tourism; but for the time being at least, an equitable balance seems to have been struck. The poaching record has been successfully reduced - although not completely stopped - and Kanha upholds its reputation as a model in wildlife management and research. Today Kanha is among the few most scenic and beautiful wildlife reserves in Asia. This 'Tiger'  is the ideal home for both predator and prey.
