Jamnagar a coastal town is also known as the "Jewel of Kathiawad". Jamnagar is a charming blend of the old and the new with its ancient monuments and broad streets, imposing facades, and squares which make it one of the most beautiful cities in the Saurashtra peninsula. There are a number of ancient Temples in and around the town which is why it also known as Chothi Kashi. The town is also famous for its exquisite handicraft items such as silk and gold embroidery, silver ware and bandhani or tie-and-dye fabrics.
 
History :
Founded in 1540, Jamnagar is the Abode of the Jam- the Jadeja Rajput rulers of Nawanagar. The city was built around the small Ranmal Lake. For centuries it was renowned for its pearl fisheries, a naval base of some importance, and a certain type of tie-and dye fabrics. Today, it is more popular for having the only Ayurvedic University in India and a temple listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

Air:  Airlines service connects Jamnagar with Bombay and Bhuj.

Rail: Jamnagar is directly connected with Ahmedabad and Bombay. Hapa Jn.(9 km) from Jamnagar is another convenient Railhead on the broad guage terminus.

Road: Jamnagar to Palitana 246 km, Rajkot 86 km, Ahmedabad 304 km, Somnath 257 km, Dwarka 148 km. Gujarat State Transport services connect Jamnagar with Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Somnath.

Lakhota Palace, JamnagarLakhota Palace is reputed as one of the major tourist attractions among the tourists visiting Jamnagar. Located in the center of Old Jamnagar on an island in the middle of a lake, two old structures namely Lakhota Fort and Kotha Bastion are sure to captivate you. The terrace of Lakhota Fort displays a fine collection of sculptures that date back to the time of yore. The Kotha Bastion is Jamnagar's arsenal. It has a fine collection of sculptures, coins, inscriptions and copper plates and the skeleton of a whale. Its major attraction is an old well, the water of which can be drawn by blowing into a small hole in the floor.
 
›› Pratap Vilas Palace :
Pratap Vilas Palace, JamnagarPratap Vilas Palace is a distinct place to visit for a variety of reasons. It has a foreign architecture with Indian carvings that give it a totally distinct appeal. It was built as a mimic of Victoria Memorial Building of Calcutta but the domes built on it are according to Indian architecture, out of which 3 domes are made of glass. Carvings of creepers, flowers, leaves, birds and animals on the columns add to the attraction of this magnificent palace.
 
›› Bhujio Kotho :
Bhujio Kotho, JamnagarBhujio Kotho enjoys a distinct place among the tourists due to its height and circumference. It is believed that the monument was constructed for protection during the invasions. It has five floors and on the first floor there are guns placed in each directions. On the upper floor a tank is constructed to store water and on it's peak a dancing peacock is placed.
 
›› Bala Hanuman Temple :
The Bala Hanuman Temple is on the South-Eastern side of Ranmal Lake, and here, 24 hours a day since 1 August 1964, there's been continuous chanting of the invocation Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram'. This devotion has earned the Temple a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Early evening is a particularly good time to visit as it's fairly animated then. In fact this whole area on the South-Eastern edge of the lake becomes very lively around sunset.

›› Punnathur Kotta :
Punnathur Kotta is at the distance if 4 kms from Jamnagar. Nearly 40 elephants are fenced and fed here.
 
›› Mammiyoor Temple
Many of the devotees who visit the temple also visit the Shiva Temple at Mammiyoor, the abode of Lord Shiva. Located about half a Kilometer from Guruvayur, it is not only a visiting place for the devotees, but also a temple worth visiting by ordinary visitors.
 
›› Kerala Kalamandalam : 

Kerala Kalamandalam is situated on the banks of Bharathapuzha river in Cheruthuruthy. Founded in 1927, Kerala Kalamandalam, is a place for Kathakali dance drama and other performing arts of Kerala. Here one can see Kathakali, Koodiyattam and Mohniyattam performances in its theatre, known as Koothambalams. In kalamandalam there are schools specializing in the dance / theatre forms of Kathakali and Koodiyattam offer visitors an insight into the Keralas traditional arts.
