January/February

Temple Festival held at the Siva Temple in Ernakulam for 8 days is a spectacle not to be missed. Every Day there are elephant processions, folk dances and music performances. And on the second last and the last day, there is a spectacular display of fireworks

▪  March/ April

Malayatoor Perunal The feast or the 'Perunnal' at the famous Catholic Church at Malayatoor is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter. Atop the 2000 feet high Malayatoor Hill, about 52 kms from Kochi.

Vishu Festival
holds special importance to the people of Kerala since Vishu heralds the Malayalee New Year. Vishu is the first day in the first Malayalam month of Medam. Though it is the ninth month in the new calendar, astrologers continue to follow the older one and thus consider the first day of Medam to be the New Year Day.

▪  April/May

Thissur Pooram Celebrated in Medom, not far from Kochi (Cuchin) consists of processions of rich caparisoned elephants from various neighboring temples to the Vadakunnatha Temple. The most impressive processions are those from the Krishna Temple at Thiruvambadi and the Devi Temple at Paramekkavu.

August

Yosakoi Festival A Japanese festival is held every year for four days from 9th to the 12th August in Kochi City. On the 9th, the Yosakoi Eve Festival and the Fireworks Festival are held. On the 10th and 11th the Yosakoi Dance Festival is held and on the 12th, the Closing Festival is held. There are plenty of games, fireworks, colours, noise and gaiety.

August/September

Athachamayam Festival The festival of Attachamayam is held on the Atham day of the Malayalam month of Chingam (August/ September), at the historical town of Tripunithura, near Kochi. which marks the beginning of the Onam festival.

Onam Festival the second most important festival in the state is celebrated to commemorate the visit of King Mahabali to his home land every year and combines this fact with a harvest festival. This festival falls in the month of August or September according to the moon’s calendar.

December

Cochin Carnival is a merry making feast observed during the last week of every year in fort Kochi in Kerala. The carnival dates back to the Portuguese New Year reverly held here during the colonial days.

Indira Gandhi Boat Race is a grand fest on the rolling back waters of Kochi. Conducted in the last week of December, it is fitting finale to the tourism Fair, which attracts travellers from all parts of the globe.

December/January

Tourism Festival This festival brings together all thirteen communities living in Kochi. The entire city is illuminated with colourful lights throughout the week and on the 26th December a food festival procession with theme floats, gajamela (elephant pageants), music concerts, Jalamela (water fiestas) and cultural programmes entertain visitors.
