Chikmagalur is a calm, serene town full of scenic surprises hills,

coffee town of Karnataka, is located at a height of over 1900 metres, 250
km from Bangalore. Chikmagalur boasts a pretty Hoysala temple -- the

The district takes its name from the head quarters town of Chikmaglur, which
literally means 'Younger Daughter's Town'. It is said to have been given as
a dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the legendary chief of Sakrepatna. Another part of the town bestowed on the elder daughter is known
as the Hiremaglur. But some old inscriptions reveal that these two places
were known as Kiriya-Magalu and Priya Magalu. Situated in a fertile valley
south of the Baba Budan Range in the head quarters town of the district,
Chikmaglur is a centre of education, trade and commerce. The town enjoys a
salubrious climate and has venerated monuments of all religions such as
Kondadarama Temple, a synthesis of Hoysala and Dravidian styles of
architecture, Jamia Mosque and the new St. Joseph's Cathedral with an
attractive shell-shaped portico. Hiremaglur, which is now part of Chikmaglur
town, has an Ishwara Temple with a 1.22-m high curious rotund figure of
Jademuni. The temple is supposed to have been installed by king Janamejaya
during his serpent sacrifice. |

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary 38 kms from Chikmagalur, this sanctuary is must
for wildlife enthusiasts. The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary in the
Chickmagalur and Shimoga Districts, is one of the most fascinating
sanctuaries. Sheltering some exquisite flora and fauna. The great Indian
gaur, barking deer, flying fox, mongoose, elephant, panther,babbler,
barbet, blue jay, kingfisher, robin, weaverbird, and drongo
have all made
their home here. This place is truely mysterious, magical and
mind-blowing. The secrets of the jungle unwind as you go deep into the
seemingly silent forest. Birds whistle their favorite songs.

Kemmanagundi
: |
Kemmanagundi is named after the Wodeyar king Krishnaraja Wodeyar
IV, who made it his favorite summer camp. Quite, peaceful, serene.
Nestling amidst lush green forests, Kemmanagundi is sure revive and
rejuvenate one - physically, mentally & spiritually. Situated in the Tarikere Taluk of Chikmagalur District on the Baba Budan range at a
height of 1,434 m, is a picturesque hamlet Kemmanagundi, also called K.
R. Hills. It is the ideal place to get away from the heat and dust, the
crowds and traffic jams of the cities.

Kudremukh situated 1,894.3 m above sea level and 95 kms south-west
of Chikmagalur town is the Kudremukh (Horse Face) range. It is so named
because of the unique shape of the Kudremukh Peak. Overlooking the Arabian
Sea, the broad hills are chained to one another with deep valleys and
steep precipices. Kudremukh is a secluded hill station which retains much
of its pristine, natural beauty. Lush green forests interspersed with
rivers, grassy slopes, captivating cascades and rare orchids.

Sringeri : |
|
Sringeri is one of the most celebrated pilgrimage centers in
Karnataka, and is home to the Sarada Peetham established by the revered
spiritual leader Aadi Sankaracharya. The chief attraction being the 12
zodiac pillars in the Vidya Shankara temple, which are so arranged that
the Sun's rays fall on the particular pillar corresponding to the month.
The Vidyashankara temple at Sringeri was built in memory of Guru
Vidyashankara or Vidyathirtha by Vidyaranya, with the aid of the
Vijayanagar rulers in the 14th century |
