The elegant single spire of the Mahabodhi Temple, rising to thes height of 55m above the trees of its compound at the centre of
Bodhgaya, is visible from all over the surrounding countryside. The
temple complex is liberally sprinkled with stupas and shrines. Inside the temple, a single
chamber holds a large gilded image of the Buddha, while upstairs are a
balcony and a small plain meditation chamber. |
