Bodhi Tree lies
at the west of the temple Mahabodhi. The tree grows out of an expansive
base, in pleasant grounds that attracts scholars and meditators. Pilgrims
tie coloured thread to its far-reaching branches, decorated by prayer
flags and Tibetians accompany their rituals with long lines of
butter lamps. A sandstone slab with carved sides next to the tree is
believed to be Vajrasana upon which Buddha sat facing east.
