The gleaming, white Vishwa Shanti Stupa
on Dhauli Hill, 8km south of Bhubaneshwar on the Pipli road, was
built by Japanese Buddhists in 1972. It overlooks the spot where the
Maurayan emperor Ashoka defeated the Kainga in the decisive battle of 265
BC and slightly eclipses the older memorial stupa. |
