▪ Bandipur National Park : |
Location : Bandipur National Park & Tiger Reserve (Mysore Dist)
Area : 874.20 sq km
Special Attractions : Elephants, gaurs, & other Wildlife
Best time to visit : Sept-Apr
Fauna :- Bandipur has a fairly
open forest area, making it easy for visitors to spot
wildlife. The prominent fauna of this reserve, include the
Asian elephant, gaur, sambar, chital, mouse deer, four
horned antelope, wild pig, black naped hare and the Indian
porcupine. Apart from 230 bird species it is also home to Tiger, Elephant,
Gaur, Sloth Bear, Civets, Striped Hyaena, Marsh Crocodile, Indian Monitor,
Forest and Southern Green Calotes, Flying Snake, Wolf snake, Indain
bronzeback and snakes. Birds of particular interest can
be raptors, woodpeckers and songbirds.

Area : 492.46 sq km

Wildlife Sanctuary in the Chikmagalur & Shimoga Districts, is one of the
most fascinating sanctuaries. The great Indian Gaur, Barking Deer, Flying
Fox, Mongoose, Elephant, Panther, Macaque, Babbler, Barbet, Bluejay,
Kingfisher, Robin, Weaver Bird, Drong have all made their home here. |

Best time to visit : Dec-MayFauna :- The calm and peaceful Dandeli Wildlife
Sanctuary is reputed as the largest wildlife sanctuary in
Karnataka. Sloth Bear, Bush Grail, Deer, Elephant, Sambar, Tiger, Gaur,
Panther and Partridge are some of the many inhabitants of the sanctuary.

Special Attractions :Lion-tailed macaque, tigers, sambar, leopards & gaur
Best time to visit : Sep-MarFauna :- The main attractions in this
park are indian gaur, sambar, spotted deer, tiger, leopard, wild dogs, sloth
bears, common mangoose, giant squirrels, bonnet monkeys, common langur,
Fresh water fishes, butterflies and other forest insects. The park is a
mixture of evergreen and semi-evergreen forests and Shola grasslands which
supports Tiger, Leopard, Gaur,Lion-tailed macaque. |

Area : 247 sq km
Special Attractions :Tiger, alorh bears, lion-tailed macaque & chital
Best time to visit : Nov-AprFauna :- Located in one of the wettest sections of the
Western Ghats in Karnataka, its evergreen and semi-evergreen forests are
home to the tiger, sloth bear, lion-tailed macaque, deer, giant and flying
squirrels. Atractions include Lion-tailed Macaque, Giant Squirrels and
Slender Loris and the endangered Cane Turtle. |
